Three people have been arrested following an investigation into a stolen hockey stick operation.
Thunder Bay Police Service officials and members of the OPP investigated the theft of about 50 composite hockey sticks. Police say the sticks were stolen from Play It Again Sports at around 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 3.
Suspects entered the sports store by breaking the glass of the front door. The suspects then made off with the brand new hockey sticks, valued between $80 and $300 each.
Police arrested a 29 year old Thunder Bay man just after 3 p.m. Jan. 6 when he allegedly tried to sell the two stolen hockey sticks to an undercover police officer at the Delaney Arena.Police later arrested a 27-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman. Officers recovered seven of the stolen hockey sticks.
Police continue to investigate, and say they believe a number of the stolen sticks may have already been sold at area arenas. About 40 sticks of various brands, including Reebok, Sherwood, Easton, Warriors, TPS and CCM, remain missing.
Thunder Bay Police Service officials are now asking that anyone who may be in possession of one of the stolen composite hockey sticks to contact police at 684-1200.
